I've spent the better part of my adulthood thus far eating according to some sort of plan. Whether it was a counting calories plan, or carb-cycling plan, or high-protein plan, or cleansing plan, or some other big-name, celebrity-endorsed plan. The plans themselves may have been vastly different to each other, but they all had 2 things in common:
|
It might seem a little (or a lot) unstructured, and some people would call it downright irresponsible. "You can't possibly eat whatever you want, whenever you want!!" But I'm learning that yes, in fact, you can. As long as what you're eating is actually nourishing your body in ways that nature intended. Your body will start telling you what it needs and when it needs it, and how much it needs.
The problem was, I didn't know what to have. I was standing in front of the fridge going "what do I want, what do I want?" I then realized that the reason I didn't know what to make, was because I really wasn't all that hungry yet. I knew I wouldn't be skipping breakfast all together. But I did gave myself permission to just hold off a bit and wait until my body knew what it wanted.
I ended up doing a 30 minute workout, had a shower, put some dishes away from last night, and made my bed. All the while, waiting for my body to send me clues that it was ready to eat. When it finally did, I knew exactly what I was craving: the taste of sausage and peppers!!
I'm really glad I waited, because this is what I came up with! Sausage and Peppers with Egg! Using an egg fresh from my parents farm, with just-picked banana peppers from the garden, locally-grown aromatic onions, fresh parsley, and of course, my parents' farm-raised pork sausage. What a satisfying, protein-rich, hearty breakfast!!! It was just the flavour I was craving, and the protein my body obviously needed after my workout. |
