I haven't forgotten about this blog, I promise. But with getting sick last weekend and working on report cards for school, my time has been limited the past couple of weeks. I guess it's that time of year! Anyway, although I did manage to catch quite the cold, it was short lived. I had two and a half really horrible days (congestion, fever, and fatigue). But that went away as quickly as it came, thank goodness. I'm still coughing up all the left over gunk that's in my chest, but other than that, I'm fine. Part of what made me start to feel better so quickly was this broth that I made. It was really soothing to my sore throat, and helped to clear up a lot of my sinus congestion. It's actually become my hot drink of choice, sick or not sick. Click the read more link or the title of this post to see how easy it is to make. |
- unclogging arteries
- lowering cholesterol
- helps to fight infections, cold and flu
- Vitamin C to help support the immune system
Incidentally, I also use lemons for cleaning my house (it fights grease really well), and for cleaning my face. I dab a little bit of fresh squeezed lemon juice with a drop of olive oil and lightly rub it over my face to give a gentle, deep cleanse. I do that about once a week or two.
I'm like the guy from My Big Fat Greek Wedding who uses Windex to cure everything. Except instead of using Windex, I use lemons. Lemons are nature's little healers in my opinion. Lemons combined with the healing properties of garlic, and pure honey are what made this broth particularly helpful in fighting my cold last weekend.
It's also surprisingly tasty! At first I thought the taste of garlic would put me off. But the lemon and honey really help to dilute the taste, and it actually tasted really good! As I said, I'm using it as my new hot drink of choice, since I've never been a coffee drinker, and I only drink tea on occasion.
Another alternative is to use fresh ground ginger and lemon. Or, you could even combine the ginger with the other three ingredients. There's really no way to go wrong with these healing ingredients. They all taste sweet and soothing at the same time.
